• End of NATO?

From Joseph Pereira@1:103/705 to All on Thu Apr 2 04:04:31 2026

Yesterday, Trump revealed that he is considering leaving NATO. What did the stock market do to that?

    In fact, nothing.

Investors do not react to a report that would confirm the end of an era!

    Why then?

Is it because no one takes Trump seriously anymore?

Is it because Europe knows that, at this moment, Russia is not the enemy Europe should fear so fiercely?

After all, there is no better time than now if the US actually wants to leave NATO.

Europe would then have years to prepare to defend its own territory.

Do they still want to be in an alliance with the US based on the premise that an American general becomes the commander of the joint forces? Excuse me, but I don't think Europe would be willing to do that just like that right now. Suppose it is a MAGA general, appointed purely because he keeps saying yes to Trump; Europe really wouldn't accept that leadership. So, isn't NATO actually dead and buried for Europe already? Can NATO defend itself without the US?

The question then is: defend against whom?

Frankly, against anyone who wants to invade Europe, and strangely enough, that includes both Russia and the US.

Russia is not a direct threat right now, and the US has also lost a great deal of respect following its failure in Iran.

If the US wants to conquer Greenland, realistically speaking, Europe cannot do much about it militarily. They can only make an economic stand, because the US would lose its largest foreign market. Unfortunately, they would also lose a major energy supplier. After all, they swapped Russia for the US in Europe and haven't made any progress whatsoever. Europe really needs to get serious about energy independence.

If the US also attacks Canada, I have already indicated that an Iran-like situation will arise that will ultimately bring down the US completely. In the event of a US military attack on Canada, the US will be dismantled from within. Add to that the resistance Canada will offer, and it will be clear that the US will primarily be fighting against itself in that case. The question is, moreover, whether the American military apparatus wants to leave NATO yet. The president may say so, but as president, you can at some point go too far. The percentage of objectors within the military who do not want to fight against Iran is substantial. In the event of leaving NATO and increased threats towards Greenland and Canada, there is a chance that the military will adamantly refuse to follow orders any longer.
