  • Unix Distro for an older Thinkpad

    I am setting up an old Thinkpad x200 (8gigs of RAM, SSD, new 9-cell battery) as my cyberdeck. What Unix distro would you recommend? I am leaning towards Debian + i3m or Void Linux.

    That's Linux. True Unix don't have distros, though there are a few flavors of BSD, which is the next best thing.

    Is it a 64 bit CPU? I'd hope so. I had a couple of Thinkpads from that
    time that were 32-bit only, and distros were dropping support for
    32-bit.

    There are a ton of lightweight distros out there, I always liked the
    project that became BunsenLabs. It came with OpenBox window manager, a
    Conky display overlay showing system stats, and looked a little
    different from your usual distro.

    The community around Void is still pretty small, so it's possible you'll have issues with hardware support on an older laptop like that.
