in 2024 a new board went up. truly a miracle. i wonder how active this scene is these days. I'm using PuTTy for this but i'll prolly change to something better.

i messed around with these boards in the early 2000's, hung out in chats with grimmjack and gosh i can't remember their names but they did some ansi's and mod packs for synch and mystic.
anyway lets get some posts going. what would we talk about here.. i wonder if /s still saves..

Synchronet is a little odd as to how it handles some things...but I think that is because those things changed since we were using boards way back when. I have done a lot with this thing so far, and just don't have that "teenager" time I used to have. I wrote the oneliners from scratch. I also wrote the "bot destroyer" module, which is actually pretty involved (and a complete waste of time with Synchronet, but it was fun). I did my own menu headings, and menu files (still in progress). Currently I am looking into how I can replace all of those smaller menus (like the QWK menu) that don't seem to work the same way the main and file menus work. It has been interesting. So much has changed since then...I have looked at BBSes a few times, and set a few of them up since the 90s, but I was just screwing around with Renegade and Mystic thinking not much had changed. I had no idea Synchronet was still alive, Mystic was still alive, hell Renegade is still alive. There are entirely new packages like Enigma 1/2 out there...which I almost ran, but Synchronet is so much more mature.

You gotta grab SyncTERM or NetRunner. I am using SyncTERM because it seems a little more fleshed out for modern BBSes. It has sort of a Telix interface, at least in my opinion it does.

I did the same, but I never thought to look for *NEW* software. I was running the same old Renegade we would run in the 90s with a janky fossil driver and some "virtual" DOS. I have no idea what prompted me to start looking at this again in 2024... Nostalgia? Age? I really have no idea. It has been a good exercise in learning, though.
