    Hey Alan!

32G SanDisk Cruzer Glide - USB 3.0, Type A male plug

There goes 42 minutes I'll never get back.

    64G Lexar D300 USB 3.2 Gen 1, Type A male plug
    # dd if=slackware64-current-install-dvd.iso of=/dev/sdb status=progress 4963467776 bytes (5.0 GB, 4.6 GiB) copied, 622 s, 8.0 MB/s

Just a tad under 4x faster but still +10 minutes of my life gone to testing el-cheapo flash disks. However one more test as the Leexar has a USB-C male plug on the opposite end of the pen drive. Is there a difference?

Slightly faster but nothing to write /home to the mothership about.

For the record the sata ssd on both the type a and c produced the same result at 395 MB/s transfer rates, which compared to the above rates is astronomically superior if one ignores the cost differential.

Yeah, the thumb drive variety are handy but are slow at the best of times.

Mine re all quite old now. Maybe I should invest in some new ones.

BTW, I read that someone has stood up to maintain the LFS SysV book. If it works out as planned there may be a light at the end of that tunnel.

The 2 I posted about I bought the same day and were dirt cheap compared to the first one I ever owned witch was back in 1999-ish. I had to order it from a Canadian techie firm which was located in N. Carolina. I forget the name of that company but the usb flash drive was a M-Systems 8M jobber if I am not mistaken. I also have a 2.5" 44-pin SSD (1G) that still works ... or it did the last time I chacked. I lack a 44-pin controller at the moment.

    Awesome! Keeping fingers crossed here.
