• Changing prompts from green to another colour?

From Waveyuk@1:103/705 to All on Thu Feb 5 19:41:32 2026
    Hi.
I'm trying to figure out how I can change the prompts from green to another colour, for example cyan or bright magenta.

I looked on this page and followed the example by setting up a text.ini file and as an example, created this line:

    SubLstHdr: "\1-\1cSub-boards of \1h%-60.60s \1n\1cMsgs"\"\r\n\r\n\1h"

However, when viewing the prompt, it still shows in green. I've done the obvious like logging off, recycling, even restarting the SBBS daemon on the linux server, but the colours don't change. So I am guessing I'm missing something obvious. Would appreciate any help or guidance.

    Thanks
    Dave

That's not a prompt string, that's a listing header (e.g. displayed when using the (J)ump to area command). What prompt are you referring to?

It sounds like you might just be changing the wrong string ID.

    Hi.

That's not a prompt string, that's a listing header (e.g. displayed when using the (J)ump to area command). What prompt are you referring to?

Basically, what I'm trying to achieve is anywhere that prompts or listing headers are shown in green, I want to change the colour from green to magenta/bright magenta. So, as an example, the heading as you mentioned, where is says "Sub-boards of <network>....Msgs" and then the list of messages themselves. Also prompts that appear at the bottom of the screen, such as the "(P)review, (R)eply/Mail, (G)oto, Find...(Q)uit (V)iew" which all appear in green. The reason for the change is I'm trying to make them aesthetically fit in with the colour of my BBS, which is predominantly magenta/bright megenta and purple.

    Cheers
    Dave

The example "prompt at the bottom of the screen" that you quoted appears to be from the msglist.js module. That particular prompt from that script is using "mnemonics" which get their color values from the ctrl/attr.ini file (or attr.cfg in older versions of Synchronet) file. So you want to change these lines in that file:
mnehigh = WH ; Mnemonic Prompts High mnelow = G ; Mnemonic Prompts Low mnecmd = WH ; Mnemonic Commands

e.g. change the G to M and the WH to MH. For a list of what those letters mean, see https://wiki.synchro.net/custom:ctrl-a_codes
