• New User Email question

From xbit@1:103/705 to All on Sun Feb 23 09:02:57 2025
When a new user logs on sync has an option in scfg > new user prompts > email/netmail addy > [Yes/No].

It would be a nice to have [Yes/No/Option] in this config seting to allow the user to give an email or not.

I see new callers sometimes alt-h during this question or just give an BS answer like never@no.com for example. Some sysops might require a real email, some might have it set to not even ask and some might just want an email if the user wants to share.

    Just my 2› ;)

If you use the emailval.js module (and your outgoing internet email works properly), then new users can't log into the system without providing a valid email address.

It's good to let new users know up front why your system requires email addresses. Password retrieval is as good a reason as any, in case they forget it. My new user login process makes this very clear.

So maybe like an optional prompt "Do you wish to provide your email or netmail address"? And if the user answers Yes, then the address has to be valid?

It'd be helpful created an issue at gitlab.synchro.net and save the request/suggestion there or if you describe it in more detail here I can create an issue and paste the details there.

I'll give the gitlab.synchro.net ago. Thanks DM.
