Canada to Invest in Its Ports

Canada plans to significantly increase its trade with the rest of the world. It is therefore redeveloping its ports.
This makes it a direct competitor to American ports.
Those ports are already seeing less than 50% of their trade volume compared to a year ago.
Now that Canada will be regulating its own imports and exports without the US, this will be even more detrimental to American ports.
Until a year ago, Canada often purchased materials that arrived through American ports. This was cheaper than sending ships to Canada separately.
This has changed now, as Canada is doing much less trade with the US and will be doing much more trade with the rest of the world. Ships can now arrive in Canada fully loaded and depart fully loaded.
Many ship owners are very excited about this, fed up with the chaos surrounding import duties in the US. It's chaos in the US, and you never know where you'll end up when your ship arrives at an American port. Canada is therefore highly sought after as an alternative in North America. Every ship now sailing to Canada loses a ship to the US market. This will be extremely painful for the US.
All of this has made Trump extremely angry, and he has already stated that he will demand that Canada halt its investments.
The Canadian Prime Minister has since stated that port development is crucial for Canada's development and future. In short, he is not responding to Trump's demands.
