Based on that timeline I don't guess it was Pepsi that ruined
Long John Silvers, but something did. I grew up in Louisville
in the 1970s and LJS was, at that time, sort of a cross between
"fast food" and a table service restaurant. It was sort of a
Pepsi owned KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, LJS, and A&W up to the late 90s.
Pepsico bought KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell, they never owned LJS, or A&W. KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell were spun off into Tricon Global Restaurants. Tricon was later renamed Yum! Brands Inc., which now owns these and other restaurants like Habit Burger.
A&W Restaurants and Long John Silver's (LJS) are no longer owned by the same company;
Yum! Brands sold both chains in 2011 to focus on KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell. A&W was sold to A Great American Brand, LLC, a franchisee-led group, while Long John Silver's went to LJS Partners LLC, a consortium of franchisees and investors.
... A Smith and Wesson beats four aces.
